Home Improvement: Paul's Room

A few weeks ago, I did a mini-makeover to Paul's bedroom while he was away for the weekend.  He had all the beginnings of a great bedroom - it just need a a few finishing touches.  His room is on the top floor of his townhouse and has amazing tall ceilings and hardwood floors.

Paul's room was not bad it was just very bachelor.  Paul is still technically a bachelor but he is 32.........it was time for some side tables and lamps....and I just couldn't help myself with the throw pillows.

The flowers, I might add, were from Paul :) he left them there for me before he left because he knew I would be staying at his place that weekend (so sweet and little did he know - so perfect for the mini-makeover!).  The bedding is from West Elm and the lamps, round side table, pillows, and throw are all from HomeGoods!
My grandfather loves to give Paul a hard time about the throw pillows.....he says when women start adding throw pillows...you are in trouble.  That may be true but I can't help it - I LOVE throw pillows...as you have seen here and you will see more in other areas of the house.

Paul loves the room and I am very happy with it - but it needs just a few more things...one in particular that I am about to tackle.

This picture doesn't give the space above the bed justice.  It is a huge blank wall!  I have some ideas for filling it but I don't just want to throw a piece of artwork up there.  I want something with a natural element, something unexpected that will create an impact in the room while still keeping the feeling of the room peaceful (where the natural element comes into play).

Below are some of inspiration pieces I like - but they are not exactly what I am looking for.
I included this picture so that you could see the artwork setup in a room.  I really love this room below for so many reasons - it kinda reminds me of my mom's living room now that I think about it!
Below is a picture I found on etsy.  I don't know that I will buy it, but I really like that it has a different shape while still creating one single look.
What I really want to do is make my own piece of artwork.  My plan is to find the perfect limb out in Paul's very own back yard (or a nearby park).  I want a limb with character - knobs, twists, unexpected turns and it has to be the right size for the space.  Once I find the right limb (hopefully this weekend) I am going to slightly sand it down and spray paint it.  I haven't decided the color yet - but I think a bronze or dark, dark, gold might work - maybe even a burnt orange to compliment the throw pillow?  Like I said, I'm not sure yet.

So if you see Paul and I out in the city this weekend rummaging through the leaves and climbing trees...don't be surprised - we are just working on my DIY project! :)

If you have ever done this yourself or know someone that has - please let me know!!! I would love some tips and example pictures!! I am having a hard time finding anything online.

In other news...I am headed to this charity event tonight.  I am going with a girl from work and hoping to get some cool ideas for the Holidays!
