While I love living in the city, sometimes the county girl in me just needs to get out to wide open space. When I lived in Georgia I would spend most Sundays in Dawsonville, GA hanging out with my family, playing with Shadow, and falling asleep for an afternoon nap on the living room couch.
Here in Boston, I am lucky enough to have to have Paul's parent's house to travel to on a Sunday. Yesterday Paul and I had breakfast in the city and then headed to Wrentham, MA.
We were greeted with warm banana bread, cupcakes in the oven, and all the ingredients to make Italian meatballs and manicotti.
{eggs, parmesan cheese, and fresh parsley}
{Ross is joking here - but does it count as a joking matter when it has happened before? ;) }
{we used Paul's Grandmother's recipe which includes three types of ground meat - pork, veal, and lamb}
{an ice cream scoop makes the perfect meatball}
{I should smile more while I cook! :( }
Sandy made chocolate cupcakes and vanilla frosting. She is definitely the baker in the family with every baking supply you could possibly want in her pantry. When it came time to decorate - there was no short of supply - so I got a little creative! I used two types of frosting tips and roamed through the kitchen looking for possible toppings. I messed up a few times at first - all you have to do is scrape it off, place the icing back in the bag, and start over - there's no formula to frosting.
{I started with a blank palette - as you know, a tubing bag is all you need for a mountain of white icing}
{non pareils - reminds me of ice cream}
{toppings have no limits - hershey bar, m&m's, and semisweet morsels}
{hershey bar shavings}
{white sprinkles, heath bar, & heshey bar/shavings - my personal fav}
Placing is my favorite part of taking the pictures - if you've seen me photograph - you know how crazy I can be about it. Sometimes the most bizarre staging make the best pictures.
{time for dinner - always special touches in the lashway house!}
homemade italian meatballs & cheese manicotti - delish! I couldn't move afterwards. Hopefully I will be able to run this meal off this week - debatable.
After about 30 minutes - we all could breath again - and it was time for dessert! Coffee and Cupcakes are the classic dessert duo in my mind.
It was a great Sunday and I feel rejuvenated to face another hectic week in the city. Well The King's Speech just won Best Picture (which was my pic!! - GREAT movie!) - time for me to get some zzzzzzzzzzzz's!!
